Tirana International Literature Festival
Literature in Transit
Tirana, 29 October 2015 — Announced today, the International Literature Festival, to be hosted in Tirana on October 29‒31, will introduce Albanian readers to writers from Austria, Germany, Italy, Kosovo, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia, Albania, and Switzerland.
Inspired by this year's festival motto, "Literature in Transit," 21 authors will speak about literary experiences and give their personal reflection on contemporary literature and arts under transition, both political, social and cultural.
An initial supporter of this event, Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro evidenced the importance of the festival and said she would continue to voice support for similar projects whose goal is to improve the Albanian culture in general.
Festival director Jonila Godole emphasized the role of the Festival as an open auditorium for guest authors and the Albanian audience, who is undergoing a much broader political and social transition these past 25 years. The younger generation is especially in need of shifting their perceptions on the various European countries, she said.
"Tirana reads" project coordinator, Belfjore Qose, introduced participants with details on the initiative conceived as a marathon reading session running on October 29 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at various literary cafes: Tirana Times, Zenit, Woodstok, Friends Book House, Hemingway, E Jona, E për7shme.
The Festival is organized by IDMC (Institute for Democracy, Media & Culture) in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the Allianz Cultural Foundation (Berlin). It is also supported by other institutions such as the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Austrian Embassy, Swiss Embassy, Municipality of Tirana, National Museum, National Theater, Experimental Theater, Metropolitan Theater, National Library etc.
